Repair first, if it's safe
Not every puncture means a new tyre. If the hole is in the central three-quarters of the tread and no bigger than 6mm, and the tyre hasn't been driven on while flat, it can usually be repaired properly from the inside with a plug-and-patch repair to British Standard BS AU 159. That's cheaper than a new tyre, and we'll always tell you honestly whether it's possible.
If the damage is in the sidewall or shoulder, the hole is too big, or the tyre has been run flat, it can't be safely repaired. Then we fit a replacement from the van, balance it, and you're back on the road the same visit.
Why Birmingham tyres pick up so many punctures
Screws and nails are the most common cause of punctures, and with building work and roadworks all over the city there are plenty on the roads — usually found as a slow leak on the drive in the morning, or a tyre warning light on the way to work. Potholes are the other big one: a hard hit can pinch the tyre against the rim and cause a slow puncture days later.
