Is your car on run-flats?
Look at the sidewall. Run-flats carry a maker's mark: RFT on Bridgestone, SSR on Continental, ZP on Michelin, ROF on Goodyear and Dunlop, or r-f on Pirelli. They're fitted from the factory on many BMWs (1, 2, 3 and 5 Series and most X models), MINIs and some Mercedes models — usually cars with no spare wheel in the boot.
A run-flat has a stiff sidewall that holds the car up after it loses pressure. Most manufacturers allow about 50 miles at no more than 50mph once the warning comes on — check your handbook — so you can get off a main road safely, but you shouldn't try to drive home across the city on one.
Repair or replace?
Most tyre makers say a run-flat that has been driven while deflated shouldn't be repaired, because the damage is inside the tyre where you can't see it. If you stopped straight away and the puncture is small and in the tread, we'll check whether a repair is possible and tell you honestly. If not, we fit a new run-flat from the van.
Run-flats have stiff sidewalls and need care to fit without damaging the tyre or the wheel. We fit and balance them at your home, work or the roadside, and check the pressures on all four wheels before we leave.
Price and coverage
The call-out across Birmingham is £60 to £80 from our base in east Birmingham (B33), with no extra charge at night or at weekends. Run-flat tyres cost more than standard tyres; we give you a price for your size when you call.
